Engineering Services
Technical | Practical | Compliant | Resilience
Seismic Design Australia provides end-to-end engineering services for the design, specification, and certification of supports and restraints for non-structural elements. We work across all project types — from standard commercial buildings to critical post-disaster facilities — delivering solutions that contractors can count on.
Seismic restraint design for all non-structural elements (NSEs) in accordance with AS 1170.4 and associated Australian Standards. Our designs are practical, buildable, and certified by registered professional engineers.
Our restraint design scope covers an extensive range of building services.
Scope includes
- Mechanical services — HVAC, plant, ductwork, refrigeration, gas
- Electrical services — cable trays, conduit, switchboards
- Hydraulic services — pipework, tanks, pumps
- Fire protection systems - wet fire suppression, fire detection
- Suspended ceiling systems
- Life safety components
Secondary Support Systems
Support design and specification for suspended, floor, wall, and roof-mounted components.
Beyond seismic restraint, we design the primary support systems that carry building services loads. This provides a coordinated, engineered solution that integrates support and restraint into a single system.
Secondary steel modular framework is an effective way of supporting and restraining components.
Scope includes
- Suspended support systems
- Floor-mounted support systems
- Wall-mounted brackets and supports
- Roof-mounted support systems
- Secondary steel modular framework
- Coordinated support and restraint systems
Importance Level 4 (IL4) — Special Studies
Post-disaster serviceability design for critical facilities under the Building Code of Australia.
Importance Level 4 (IL4) facilities — hospitals, emergency services, and other critical infrastructure — must remain operational following a seismic event. The Building Code of Australia through AS 1170.4 mandates "special studies" for these buildings to demonstrate post-disaster serviceability and functionality.
We have specialist experience in IL4 special studies, working with design teams, constructors and building owners to meet these stringent requirements.
Scope includes
- Hospitals and health facilities
- Emergency services buildings
- Critical infrastructure
- Facilities with hazardous materials
- BCA compliance documentation
- Post-disaster assessment
Consulting, Certification & Peer Review
Expert consulting, peer review, site inspections, and certification for complex projects.
Our consulting services support project teams throughout the design and construction process. We provide peer review of existing designs, engineering certification, site inspections and auditing, and ongoing technical support for construction teams.
We also advise product manufacturers on qualification plans and product testing requirements to demonstrate a system is "fit for purpose" and with compliance to AS/NZS Standards.
Scope includes
- Peer review of seismic designs
- Engineering design certification
- Site inspections and auditing
- Construction team support
- Product qualification plans
- Product testing advice for manufacturers
